Career In Agriculture Engineering
Indian Rural Development is incomplete without agriculture. so the demand for Agriculture Engineers is always there.
Farming plays an important role in Indian Economy. Main occupation of rural population in mainly related to farming sector such as poultry farming, animal husbandry, fish breeding etc. Also in the budget of 2012-2013 government has given importance to farming. Department having all information related to farming is known as agriculture engineering and people involved in it are known agriculture engineers. Agriculture engineering looks after farms, machinery, inspection of village, new farming techniques, land and water availability, seeds and farming tools etc. Here also like other engineering branches farming problems are scientifically solved.
Course and Qualification Required:
In this field one can get admission in B.E/B-Tech in agriculture engineering or diploma in agriculture engineering only if person has done 10+2 along with physics, chemistry, math’s or biology . B.E/B-Tech is four years course but duration for diploma course is less. Admission in agriculture engineering is done after entrance exams held by IIT – JEE and other institutes at national and state level. After B.E/B-Tech person can opt for M-Tech or P.HD. This includes crops process engineering, farm machine engineering and inspection of water, land and power supply.
How To Get Admission:
In agriculture engineering person can get admission in two ways one on the basis of 12th exams marks and other by giving exams. Degree and Post Graduate course is done from I.I.T and Engineering Institutes and diploma course is done from Polytechnic College.
Self Interest is Most Important:
As this work is based on practical knowledge so students must have practical knowledge about the tools which will increase their practical aptitude. This work is focused on rural areas so it is important to spend time with them. So you should have interest in farms and rural areas issues.
Structure of Work:
Work of agriculture engineers are always in demand. In agriculture farms, government institutes and consultancy agencies always require these engineers. Mostly the work of these engineers is to look after food processing, environment design, erosion control, material handling, agriculture power, and designing of tools etc. The department that comes under their work is food production design and quality, to design natural resource management system; development and management of bios stem production, designing of agricultural tools and animal production facilities etc.
Opportunities:
In this sector there is always vacancy available. By government also these engineers are appointed for rural development. Even private firm appoint them for knowledge of medicinal plants and rooting. Some agriculture engineers have also joined NGOS. Teaching is also a better option even some engineers can start their own consultancy, units or a company.
Opportunities For Girls:
Earlier students didn’t like to stay in rural areas but now they are showing their interest in agriculture sector, even girls also have opportunities here. Girl’s admission in this sector has increased but still it is between 15 to 20% only.
